Fascia and Soffit take on very important roles in protecting your home from moisture induced damage as well as regulating the interior temperature.
As with most components included in a cladding system, the main function of soffit and fascia is to prevent rainwater and humidity from being trapped behind your home’s building envelope.
Soffit Panels are seen installed under roof overhangs or large balconies and are designed to create an aesthetically pleasing solution for hiding joists and rafters that remain visible once the framing is completed. However, this is not the only purpose soffit panels serve. Soffit systems are installed with premade perforations or with added vent strips in order to allow air to flow freely from your attic space to the outdoor environment. Fascia on the other hand is installed as a solid board over the edge of the roof line. This provides a protective border that prevents water and debris from getting under the edge of the roofing materials all while providing a surface on which to fasten the gutter system.

There is a vast variety of soffit materials available on the market and it is important to understand the advantages of each one prior to making your decision.
There are a few different aspects to consider such as price, maintenance requirements and material expected service life.

Vinyl products are often the most budget friendly option in terms of construction materials and vinyl soffit is no different. By providing simple profiles in a variety of colours at a relatively low price, this system has become a standard for projects looking for an effective yet cost friendly soffit option. In order to minimize the need for yearly treatments and stains, we would suggest opting for Cedar soffits over Pine. This choice does increase the overall project cost; however, Cedar offers a natural resistance to moisture exposure and will last significantly longer than soffit made from Pine.
That being said, natural soffit products, whether cedar or pine, will look great installed on any home especially when combined with recessed soffit lighting.
Fiber Cement Soffits have many undeniable advantages. This material is specifically designed to perform in any weather conditions for extended periods of time all while being extremely versatile given the size of the panels.
These soffit panels offer the best performance for the price; with long lasting paint coatings, nearly impervious panels and virtually no maintenance requirements all covered by manufacturers warranty, Fibre Cement Soffits have become extremely popular amongst builders and homeowners alike.
Aluminum soffits are a great alternative to using natural wood or vinyl materials. This type of soffit is priced similarly to vinyl but offers some more favorable characteristics. Aluminum is naturally resistant to corrosion and combining this with coatings applied during manufacturing, these soffits will last many years without requiring more than a quick wash to maintain.
In order to maintain an affordable material and installation price, these soffits are quite thin and therefore susceptible to damage and denting.

Corrugated Steel soffits are usually used as an alternative for Aluminum soffits on Commercial projects but can be a great option for residential projects as well.
Although Steel Soffits are more expensive than the Aluminum option, this product can be manufactured into many different thicknesses, profiles, colours and finishes all while being less prone to damage. This allows for a more customizable approach to the designing your home’s exterior while also being able to rely on a manufacturer’s warranty for peace of mind.
Soffit lighting is one of the most noticeable accessories you can add to your home’s exterior without investing a significant amount of your project’s budget.
By correctly planning the wiring and lighting layout, it is possible to install recessed lighting with almost any type of soffit without requiring too much additional work.
It is important to visit this option prior to the installation your soffit materials as adding lighting after the fact would require removing your newly installed soffit materials to route wires to the desired locations.

PVC, also reffered to as “vinyl”, is one of the first alternatives to wood fascia to hit the market. Available in both smooth and wood grain finishes with a much longer service life than wood, this became an easy choice for homeowners looking to invest in long lasting materials.
Though vinyl fascia will last for many years, they do require regular cleaning and the colour can eventually fade in direct sunlight, creating the necessity for an occasional coat of paint.
When choosing wood as a material for your fascia, it is important to select the right type of lumber for your budget while considering the maintenance that may be required.
Pine fascia is the most popular fascia material available on the market, however, it also demands the most amount of maintenance.
Using Cedar as your soffit will increase the initial purchase price but will last much longer than its counterpart while requiring only a fraction of the maintenance work. In either case, choosing wooden fascia boards coated with a semitransparent stain will increase the curb appeal of nearly any home.
Fiber Cement products are designed and manufactured to withstand the rigors of constant exposure to weather, be it rain or sun, hot or cold.
Combining exceedingly competitive pricing with a warranty-backed service life over double that of wood or vinyl, Fibre Cement has become, in our opinion, the obvious choice for fascia installations going forward.
Fibre Cement Fascia is available in virtually any colour and can be coated by the manufacturer prior to delivery to ensure a vivid long-lasting finish.
Aluminum Fascia, whether custom maufactured ACM panels or Extruded Aluminum Planks are one of the most aesthetically pleasing materials available on the market.
Offering extremely high-quality finishes and a very durable and corrosion resistant substrate, Aluminum Fascia has quickly gained popularity among architects, home builders and homeowners.
They are light weight and fairly easy to install, however, the raw materials are significantly more expensive than wood, vinyl or fibre cement. Many customers opt to showcase these materials by using them on the most visible areas of their home in order to maximize their investment.

He counted everything and suggested which materials would be better with best quality. He also talked about the timing, progress of work and stages. All materials were brought free of charge, the entire territory was cleaned and covered with special tents so as not to spoil my garden and lawn, as well as the adjacent territory. The installation scheme was not typical and was proposed by the project manager as the optimal solution for our house design. Tom's team worked well, very efficiently maintaining an average pace and completed all the work in accordance with the established requirements. The working conditions were not satisfactory due to bad weather conditions, but despite this, the quality did not suffer. I was convinced of this once again when my relative (a professional builder) came to visit me from Manitoba and confirmed it. The experience of the construction crew is visible to the naked eye. The team is 100% completed in special equipment and tooling, I liked it. There were times when I asked builders about the tools they use. They showed me and said that all one kit they use costs at least $ 15,000. I noticed Hilti, Makita and other brands, which are very expensive. All the pitfalls were discussed during the construction activities in advance and did not baffle me. Based on the results of the work performed, I can evaluate the construction and installation team and the manager's project for an assessment of "5+". At the end of the construction activities, the area around the house was cleaned up, the remaining materials were disposed of according to the rules. In general, we were satisfied with the work, the price was not to say that it was expensive, but also not cheap. I believe that the entire budget spent on facing our house is fully justified. In confirmation of this, my friend, a realtor, told me that after the renovation, my house grew in price by 78% of the funds spent on the cladding, so I am very pleased, as most likely I will sell it in the near future. Project manager and respectable builders are very good. I and my wife would like to thank this company for the work done on time and for the attitude towards the client.
